Madurai: A fire broke out in a private bogie of the Lucknow to Rameswaram train (Punalur-Madurai Express) near Madurai Yard Junction this morning. 10 people died in this accident. Most of the dead are from Uttar Pradesh. Around 20 other people have suffered burn injuries. The Collector of Madurai has confirmed this. Officials say that the third-party booking of this bus was done by a travel agency in Sitapur. 63 people were traveling in it. According to officials, a call about the fire in this coach was received at around 5:15 a.m. from Madurai Yard Junction.

At 5:45, the fire brigade started the work of extinguishing the fire. The fire was brought under control at 7:15 a.m. Railway officials say that the LPG cylinder was the main reason for the fire in the coach. According to the railways, one can book the coach through the IRCTC, but there is a ban on carrying cylinders. Despite this, a passenger carrying a cylinder boarded this bogie. Other railway officials, including DRM, reached the spot.

The scorched passengers have been admitted to the Government Rajaji Medical College, Madurai. Meanwhile, the railways has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each of the kin of the deceased.
