Bamako, Mali, 08 Sept : Two attacks by Islamic insurgents killed 49 civilians and 15 soldiers in Mali on Thursday, military officials said.

Attacks on Passenger Boat and Military Camp in Mali

A passenger boat on the Niger River near the city of Timbuktu, and a Mali Military camp in Bamba in the Gao region were attacked, the state television reported quoting the military officials.

JNIM Claims Responsibility for Mali Attacks, Malian Military Kills 50 Assailants

Islamic extremist group JNIM, associated with al-Queda claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Malian Government announced that about 50 assailants were killed by its military while responding to the attacks. Three days of national mourning from Friday in honour of the civilians and troops killed has been announced.
