New Delhi, September 9 : On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally announced the inclusion of the African union as a permanent member of the Group of 20 (G20).
Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed the Chairperson of the African union and President of Comoros Azali Assoumani to officially attend the G20 Summit in Delhi.
G20 Summit to Be Renamed G21 After African Union Induction
In the inaugural address of the G20 summit at the Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister said that it was in the spirit of Sabka Saath that India had proposed that the African union be given permanent membership in the G20. I believe that we all agree on this proposal. With the consent of all of you, I invite the Chairman of the African union to take his seat as a permanent member of the G20.
After the joining of the African Union, the name of the G20 meeting is expected to be changed to G21.
