The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested another accused, Lingam A, alias Aadi Lingam, in connection with an attempt to revive the Sri Lankan terror outfit LTTE. The NIA has so far arrested 14 accused, including Sri Lankan nationals in this case.
According to the NIA release, they were trying to revive the LTTE through drug and arms smuggling. Lingam, a resident of Chennai, was a close aide to another accused, Gunasekharan. He was accused of benami for his illegal transactions related to legalising proceeds of drug and arms trade in India and Sri Lanka.
As per the NIA investigation, Lingam had also created forged ID documents for the members of the racket in an attempt to legalise their illegal stay in India. The NIA, however, did not mention in the release where the accused was arrested.
