Islamabad, 14 Aug : Anwar-Ul-Haq Kakar was administered oath as caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan. He is the eighth interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. Kakar was administered oath by President Arif Alvi, in the presence of the outgoing Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, President of Joint Chief of Staff Committee Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Shahbaz government’s cabinet ministers, and other senior officers.
Kakar is a former Member of Parliament and leader of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). The first assignment of Kakar is to select his team of ministers. The general elections in Pakistan may be held in a few months.
In his speech on Sunday late evening Shahbaz expressed hope that under the caretaker PM, Kakar elections will be held in a free atmosphere and without any bias.
The National Assembly has been officially dissolved. As provided in Pakistan’s Constitution the general elections are required to be held within 90 days of dissolution of the National Assembly. The new census report was published recently. The Election Commission needs time to demarcate the constituencies.
Born in the Muslim Bag of Kila Saifulla district of Balochistan in 1971 Kakar pursued primary education at St Francis School He is from the Kakar sect of the Pashtun tribe. He was admitted to Cadet College, Kohat, but returned to Quetta after his father’s death. He later studied master’s degree in Political Science and Sociology. He started his career as a school teacher and entered politics in 2008 by getting elected on the PML-Q ticket and later joined PML-N. He worked as spokesperson for Balochistan’s Chief Minister from 2013 to 2016. After getting elected as an independent candidate to the Senate in 2018 he formed his own party BAP. He is a prominent and popular leader and has been working for Non-Resident Pakistanis.
