Johannesburg, 01 Sep : The death toll in a fire at a multi-storeyed building in Johannesburg rose to 74. More than 40 are being treated in hospitals for their burn injuries. The local media has reported that many of them are in critical condition.
The building which was an unauthorised shelter for about 200 homeless people caught fire on Thursday morning. It was a government place for black workers during apartheid.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the spot and directed to pay attention to the condition of residential buildings.
