New Delhi, 21 August : President Droupadi Murmu said on Monday that the dignity of a society and nation is based on the self-respect of women. The President participated in Asmita: Inspirational Stories of Army Wives, organised by the Army Wives Association (AWWA) here.
In her address on the occasion, the President expressed his gratitude to the Veer Naris on behalf of all Indians. She praised the veer naris, who have been hailed as Asmita icons. She also appreciated AWWA for its efforts for the welfare of Veer Naris. She said that he is satisfied to know that a scheme named ‘Aahwaan’ is being run for the welfare of the Veer-Nari sisters. For this, she especially appreciates ‘Awa’.
The president said that the popular meanings of the word ‘identity’ are ‘a sense of existence’ and ‘a sense of self-pride’. It is possible to build a glorious society and nation only on the basis of the feeling of self-pride in the women’s community.
The president said that the dignity of a society and nation rests on the self-respect of women. She highlighted the need to discard some old ideas and adopt new ones. She referred to the old saying Behind every successful man there is a woman. She said that the new proverb should be that beside every successful man, there is a woman. She said that by adopting progressive thoughts, the identity and self-confidence of women can be strengthened.
The president said that only women have the ability to give birth. Women also have the ability to lead; this belief should be instilled in all sisters. Femininity includes leadership. She said that from missiles to music, our sisters have set records of extraordinary success. In simple words, ‘women have immense power; women can do anything’.
