New Delhi, September 1 : Jaya Verma Sinha, Member (Operations and Business Development), Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS), took charge as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board on Friday. She is the first woman to hold this position in the 166-year history of the Indian Railways as well as the 166-year history of the Railway Board.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Thursday approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha to the post of Chairperson and CEO of the Railway Board. The appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha will be effective from September 1 to August 31, 2024.
Sinha, an alumnus of Allahabad University, joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and worked for the Northern Railway, South-Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway. He also worked as a railway advisor for the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for four years. The Maitri Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated during his tenure in Bangladesh. He also worked as Divisional Railway Manager of Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division.
