KIUG (Roundup Day 9): Hosts Madhya Pradesh bag all 4 gold medals in canoe slalom

Bhopal, 8 February : Madhya Pradesh has made a clean sweep in the canoe slalom event held in the holy Narmada river at Sahasradhara in Maheshwar. Athletes from Madhya Pradesh impressively captured all the four gold medals at stake. On Monday, Pradyuman Singh Rathore won in the boys’ section, while Mansi Batham emerged victorious in the girls’ section. Now on Tuesday, Vishal Sharma in the boys’ category and Bhumi Baghel in the girls’ category have repeated the same success. In weightlifting, Arunachal girls won two gold while Assam and Tamil Nadu also got one gold each.

Swordsman Shreya Gupta of Jammu and Kashmir put up a fine performance to win the gold in the saber event but the TOPS Development weightlifter Marco Mario of Arunachal could not win the gold. He had to be content with silver. There was no major upheaval in tennis. With a few walkovers, all the seeded men and women advanced to the semifinals.

In swimming, Vedant Madhavan (Maharashtra), son of film actor Madhavan, won gold in the 200m freestyle with a timing of 1.55.39 minutes. Similarly, in the boys’ 100m breaststroke, Abhinandan Khandelwal (Rajasthan) clocked 1.05.82 minutes. Hasika Ramachandran (Karnataka) won gold in girls’ match 200m freestyle with a timing of 2.10.20 minutes. In 100m breaststroke, Apeksha Fernandes (Maharashtra), a top development athlete, clocked 1.13.87 minutes.

canoe slalom

It is notable that the MP government had announced six years ago that Maheshwar has now become India’s first water slalom centre. The venue has improved a lot since then under the supervision of State Sports Minister Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia. This is the reason why MP captured all the four gold medals at stake in canoe slalom.

Vishal finished first in the C1 category with a timing of 80.870 seconds, while Karthik S (Karnataka) finished second with a timing of 366.410 seconds. Vemula Kumar (Andhra Pradesh) won the bronze with a timing of 521.400 seconds. Similarly, Bhumi Baghel won gold in the K1 event in the girls’ category with a timing of 90.060 seconds. Nagadi Gayatri (Andhra Pradesh) was second in 272.670 sec and Janhavi Raikwar (Maharashtra) was third in 398.600 sec.

Madhya Pradesh, however, were left disappointed in the ongoing girls’ Kabaddi match at Abhay Prashal. Maharashtra beat the hosts 48-27 in Group-A. In the boys’ Group A match, Rajasthan defeated Bihar by a margin of 46-36 while Haryana trounced Chandigarh by a margin of 78-21 in Group B. In the girls’ category, in Group B, P. Bengal beat Chandigarh 40-30 while in Girls’ Group A Haryana thrashed Telangana 62-18. Boys Group I saw a thrilling encounter between Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, in which Bihar won 52-41. Haryana beat Uttar Pradesh 56-31 in Group B match while Himachal Pradesh beat Bihar 47-26 in Group B

Similarly, in weightlifting, in the girls’ events, in 49kg, Panchami Sonowal (Assam) stood first with a total of 154kg (snatch 65, clean and jerk 89kg) while Ritika V. (Tamil Nadu) stood first with a total of 153kg (snatch 68). , clean and jerk 85 kg) won silver. Bronze Koel Bar (West Bengal) got a total of 147 kg (snatch 64, clean and jerk 83 kg).

In 55kg Boney Mangakhya (Arunachal Pradesh) Snatch -74kg, Clean & Jerk -102kg, Total -176kg won gold while L Neelam Devi (Manipur) Snatch – 76kg Clean & Jerk – 95kg Total – 171kg won the gold. Silver and Meena Santa (Odisha) Snatch – 75kg Clean & Jerk – 93kg Total – 165kg got Bronze.

In Boys’ 61kg, Shankar Lapung (Arunachal Pradesh) stood first with Snatch – 108kg, Clean & Jerk 140kg, Total – 248kg while Siddhant Gogoi (Assam) Snatch – 110kg, Clean & Jerk – 133 kg, came second with a total of 243 kg. Shubham Kalbhor (Maharashtra) Snatch – 108kg, Clean & Jerk – 132kg, Total – 240kg won Bronze.

Hockey

In the boys’ matches, Jharkhand stunned Uttar Pradesh 1-0 while Madhya Pradesh beat Bihar 8-2. In another match Odisha defeated Chandigarh by a huge margin of 7-4. In the girls’ match, Jharkhand beat Uttar Pradesh 2-1 while Haryana registered a 3-1 win over Mizoram. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh also showed their talent by defeating Manipur 10-2. In the boys’ match, Odisha beat Chandigarh 7-4 while Haryana beat Punjab 7-3. Similarly, in the women’s section, Odisha defeated Punjab 4-0.

In the boys’ matches, Vedanta Madhavan (Maharashtra) won the gold in 200m freestyle with a timing of 1:55.39. Devansh Parmar (Gujarat) finished second in 1.55.75 minutes and Yug Chellani (Rajasthan) won the bronze in 1.55.95 minutes. In Boys’ 100m Breaststroke, Abhinandan Khandelwal (Rajasthan) clocked 1.05.82 minutes. Josua Thomas (Tamil Nadu) was second in 1.06.13 and Arjunveer Gupta (Maharashtra) was third in 1.07.29.

In the girls’ match, 200m freestyle gold was won by Hasika Ramachandran (Karnataka) with a timing of 2:10:20. Danidhi Dhingshu (Karnataka) won the silver in 2.10.51 minutes and Shakthi B. (Tamil Nadu) won the bronze with a timing of 2.13.10 minutes. In 100m breaststroke, Apeksha Fernandes (Maharashtra), a top development athlete, stood first in 1.13.87 minutes while Manvi Verma (Karnataka) came second in 1.15.71 minutes. S. Lakshya (Karnataka) clocked 1.156.96 to get the bronze. In the boys’ 50m butterfly, Shubhankar Patki (Maharashtra) clocked 25.44 seconds. Jalanjay Hazarika (Assam) was second in 25.62 and Shyam S. (Tamil Nadu) finished third in 25.87 seconds.

Tennis

In the boys’ quarterfinal match, No.1 seed Aryan Shah (Gujarat) beat Gagan Rakesh Vimal (TN) 6-1, 6-1 while Jason Michael David (Karnataka) beat Vansh Nandal (Haryana) 6-1, 6-1. Defeated 6-4 and booked a semi-final ticket. Similarly, Pranav Karthik (TN) defeated Skanda Prasanna Rao (Karnataka) 6-0, 6-4 while Daksha Prasad (2) (MP) defeated Nishit Rahane (Maharashtra) 7-6 (3), 6-4, Reached the last-4 round by defeating 6-3.

In the girls’ doubles quarter-finals, Hannah Nagpal/Soumrita Verma (Uttar Pradesh) got a walkover against Vaishnavi Adkar/Madhurima Sawant (Maharashtra). Similarly Sohini S. Mohanty/Aradhya Verma (Odisha) got a walkover against Lakshmi Siri Dandu/Sanjana Srimalla (Telangana). Pahal Kharadkar/Amishi Shukla (Madhya Pradesh) beat Suhita Maruri/Harshini N (Karnataka) 6-3, 6-4 while Tejaswi Dabas/Laxmi Gowda (Delhi) beat Ruma Gaikwari/Sonal Patil (Maharashtra) 2-6. , 7-6 (5), 10-6.

In the boys’ doubles quarterfinals, Rethin Pranav RS/Gagan Rakesh Vimal (TN) got a walkover from Izhan Ashfaq/Pratyushraj Goyal while Tanishk Jadhav/Nishit Rahane (Maharashtra) beat Waheen Patel/Aryan Shah (Gujarat) 7-6(5), Beaten 6-4. Similarly, Pranav Karthik / Karthik KS Kavin (Tamil Nadu) beat Arnav Jain / Manvardhan Rakhecha (Madhya Pradesh) 6-3, 6-0 and Deepam Malik / Riyan Sharma (Delhi) beat Jason Michael David / Skanda Prasanna Rao (Karnataka) Was defeated by 3-6, 7-5, 13-11.

In the women’s saber event, TOPS athlete Shreya Gupta (Jammu & Kashmir) won. Shreya defeated Laishram Abi Devi (Manipur) 15-14 in the final. Laishram defeated Himanshi Negi (Haryana) in the semi-finals while Shreya defeated Pragya (Haryana). Both of them got bronze medal. The gold in the men’s EP event was won by Lokesh Vemani of Telangana. Vemani defeated Laishram Khuman of West Bengal in the final. The bronze in this event went to Neer of Haryana and Khangbam Kane of Manipur. Similarly, Akash Kumar of Bihar won gold in men’s foil event. Akash defeated Tejas Patel of Maharashtra 15-9 in the final. Mandipsinh Gohil of Gujarat and Utsat Singh of Madhya Pradesh got bronze in this event.
