Bhopal, 6 February : Delhi sprinter Sonam on Sunday set a new national youth record in the 2000m steeplechase at the TT Nagar Athletics Complex here. Sonam finished the race with a timing of 6.45.71 minutes. Apart from Sonam, Rajasthan’s Siddharth Chowdhary set a new national youth record with a throw of 21.04 m.
In the 2000m steeplechase, C Keerthiana (Telangana) won the silver, clocking 7.17.37 minutes to finish second behind Sonam. Ekta Pratip (Madhya Pradesh) won the bronze in 7.28.41 minutes. In shot put, Siddharth Chowdhary cleared a distance of 21.04m while Uttar Pradesh’s Ashutosh Dubey finished second with 19.70m. Anurag Singh (UP) won the bronze with a throw of 19.68m.
The gold of long jump competition was won by Balajeeva K. (Tamil Nadu) with a distance of 7.28m. Silver went to Mahesh Satish Jadhav (Maharashtra) with 7.11m while bronze was won by Laxmikant Singh (UP) with 7.04m.
In discus throw, Rishabh Singh (Haryana) won silver with 57.74m while Sumit Kumar (Rajasthan) won silver with 54.52m and Hrithik (Haryana) won bronze with 53.48m.
Shakeel (Rajasthan) won the boys’ 800m gold. Shakeel clocked 1:52.15 minutes. Somnath Chauhan (Haryana) won silver in 1:52.22 and Adarsh Kumar Maurya (MP) won bronze in 1:52.23. Varun Manohar (Tamil Nadu) won the 200m gold. Varun took 21.67 seconds. Mangal Kumar (UP) was second in 21.90 sec and Abhay Singh (MP) was third in 22.1 sec.
Siddharth Chowdhary (Rajasthan) won the shot put. Chaudhary finished first with a throw of 21.04m while Ashutosh Dubey (Uttar Pradesh) finished second with a throw of 19.70m. Anurag Singh (UP) won the bronze with a throw of 19.68m. In the 400x400m relay, the Delhi team won the gold with a timing of 3.22.38 minutes. Tamil Nadu got silver in 3.25.82 minutes and Haryana got bronze in 3.29.28 minutes.
Talking about 2000 meters steeplechase, Ajit (Madhya Pradesh) got the first position. Ajit took 6.01.107 minutes. Sumit Rathi (Haryana) was second in 6.02.564 minutes and Sohail Baig (Uttarakhand) third in 6.02.568 minutes.
Asha Kiran Barla (Jharkhand) won the gold in the girls’ 800m. Asha took the first position in 2:07.37 minutes while Lakshita Vinod (Gujarat) came second in 2:10.18 minutes and Priya Nitin Patel (Maharashtra) third in 2:12.56 minutes.
Shivkanya Mukati (MP) won the 200 gold with a timing of 25.10 seconds. Tamanna (Haryana) won the silver in 25.30 seconds and S. Meghash (Kerala) won the bronze with a timing of 25.63. Himachal Pradesh in Group-B. beat Bengal 45-32
Similarly, in the 4x400m relay, the Maharashtra team won. This team won the gold with a timing of 3.52.68 minutes. The Delhi team finished second with a timing of 3.53.85 minutes and the Tamil Nadu team finished third with a timing of 4.00.95 minutes.
Kabaddi matches started at Abhay Prashal in Indore. Kabaddi has eight teams each in the boys and girls section, divided into groups of four each. In the girls section, host MP has been placed in Group-A along with Haryana, Telangana. In the boys’ section too, MP has been placed in Group-A. It has teams from Rajasthan, Bihar and Maharashtra.
In the first match of the day, Haryana girls beat Maharashtra 42-25 in Group A encounter. In another match, Bihar defeated Chandigarh 59-24. Similarly, in the boys section, Uttar Pradesh defeated Chandigarh 64-26 in the Group-B match.
Hosts Madhya Pradesh then lost 33-55 to Rajasthan. In the women’s Group-A, MP defeated Telangana 46-28 while Maharashtra defeated Bihar 38-32 in the boys’ Group-A. In another match Himachal Pradesh in Group-B P. Beat Bengal 45-32. Delhi boys beat Chandigarh 59-30 in Group-B match.
Hockey
In the men’s competition, hosts MP beat Jharkhand 5-1 while UP thrashed Bihar 9-2. Captain Sharda Nand Tiwary, who played for India in Sultan of Johor Cup and Junior World Cup, scored two goals. Rajan Gupta also scored two goals for UP. Mohammad Zaid Khan, Shreyas Dhupe, Ali Ahmed, Satyam Badre, Jamir Mohammad scored goals for MP. In another men’s match, Odisha beat Haryana 3-2 while Punjab thrashed Chandigarh 4-1.
Haryana drew goalless with Jharkhand in the women’s match. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh defeated Mizoram 3-1. Vandana Patel scored one goal for UP while Sunita Kumar scored two goals. Captain Lalthanluangi scored the lone goal for Mizoram. In another match, hosts Madhya Pradesh beat Odisha 5-0. Similarly, in another match, Punjab defeated Manipur 8-3.
Football
Kerala beat MP 5-0. Kerala players dominated throughout. MP made many good efforts to avoid their defeat or reduce the margin of defeat but they failed. Similarly, in another match, Punjab defeated Arunachal Pradesh 3-0.
