Shillong, 26 August : NH-6 has been blocked due to another landslide in Meghalaya’s Sonapur. Due to this, again, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura have lost road connectivity with the rest of the country.
According to official information, the landslide occurred late Friday night due to incessant rains in Meghalaya. The work of removing debris from the road has been going on since Saturday morning, but due to continuous torrential rains, the process of debris coming onto the road is still going on. The soil falling from the hill has filled the front part of the tunnel. Due to this, the NH-6 Silchar-Badarpur link road was completely closed. Due to this, long queues of vehicles going to places like Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, etc. have formed on the NH-6 Silchar-Badarpur route for several kilometres.
It is worth mentioning that on August 5 and 11, this road was also blocked due to landslides at the same place. The road was cleared of debris, and it was only opened when the landslide happened again.
