September 21, New Delhi: During the Chandrayaan 3 discussion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, a significant political controversy erupted when BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri made inappropriate comments targeting Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali. This incident prompted Speaker Om Birla to issue a cautionary warning to the BJP member.
Bidhuri’s remarks quickly drew attention on social media and from various political leaders. In response, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed regret for the “inappropriate” comments during the Lok Sabha session. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh went a step further, calling for Bidhuri’s suspension from the Lower House of Parliament.
While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi refrained from commenting on the derogatory remarks, he shifted the responsibility to the Speaker of the House. On the other hand, RJD leader Manoj Jha expressed that he wasn’t surprised by the incident. “It wasn’t a shock, it is a reality of PM’s Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam…If this type of language is used in parliament, then think about the legitimacy given to the language used for the minority in the country.” He highlighted the need to uphold the spirit of unity in a diverse nation. He pointed out that such language in Parliament reflects the acceptance of similar language against minority communities in the country.
AAP Leader Sanjay Singh raised an important concern, drawing a parallel to his own suspension when he raised the issue of Manipur. He called for action against Ramesh Bidhuri for disrespecting a fellow MP, asserting that the use of such language within the House was akin to that of a hooligan or a mafia member. “They (BJP) are doing hooliganism. The language used by Ramesh Bidhuri inside the House is the language of a goon, mafia. He abused and used terrorist words for a respected MP… The insult of Danish Ali is an insult to all opposition MPs. I raised the Manipur issue and I was suspended, why no action is being taken against him. Action should be taken against him.”
Reacting to the issue, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah expressed his concern over the use of the term “terrorist” and its impact on the Muslim community. He questioned the tolerance of Muslims associated with the BJP in the face of such language and criticized what he perceived as the BJP’s attitude toward Muslims, urging them to feel ashamed.
Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday issued a show cause notice to its Lok Sabha member Ramesh Bidhuri for his use of objectionable words against the other MP.
