Libreville, 31 Aug : Military officials stage a coup in the Central African country Gabon on Wednesday. President Ali Bongo Ondimba has been put under house arrest.
The military officials announced the take over the rule which will be headed by General Brice Oligui Nguema. He is the leader of a unit of the military and a Republican Guard leader. He is also closely related to President Bongo.
The military took over within minutes of the Election Commission announcing the election of Bongo for the third consecutive term. His family has ruled the country for the last 55 years. The military officers claimed that the election results were fake. After staging the coup the military officers announced the cancellation of the election results. Nguema was elected head of the committee and the borders of Gabon were sealed. All the government organizations were dissolved.
