The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday announced financial assistance for the victims of the under-construction rail bridge accident in Mizoram. The ministry has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh each to the seriously injured. A high-level inquiry committee has also been formed to investigate the matter.
According to the Ministry of Railways, in an unfortunate incident, a girder fell during the construction work of the bridge being carried out by the contractor at the Bhairabi-Sairang New Line Project in Mizoram. According to the Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, 14 people have died and many other labourers have been injured in this accident, which took place around 11 a.m.
The Ministry of Railways said that an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for the next of kin of each deceased, Rs 2 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries. A high-level inquiry committee has also been formed to investigate the matter.
