Aizawl, 31 August: The Central Election Commission has asked the Mizoram government to set up more checkposts along the international border to stop drug smuggling.
An Election Commission team led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar reviewed the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Mizoram. The Election Commission has asked the state government to set up additional checkposts along the international border to prevent the smuggling of drugs and liquor to ensure peaceful elections.
In fact, a team of the Election Commission, under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal, reached Mizoram on August 29 on a two-day tour. The Election Commission team reviewed the preparations for the next assembly elections. It is noteworthy that the tenure of the Mizoram Assembly is ending on December 17 this year.
