Ahmedabad, 2 February : Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century helped India beat New Zealand by 168 runs in the third T20I to clinch the series 2-1. Gill, who became only the fifth Indian batsman to score a century in all three formats, smashed an unbeaten 126 off 63 balls to power India to a massive 234 for 4 in 20 overs.
In reply, the Kiwis were bowled out for a total of 66, with India captain Hardik Pandya taking four wickets. After the match, Pandya, who also scored an unbeaten 30 off 17 balls, said that he would have to change his game as per the requirement of the team.
Pandya said during the post-match press conference, I have always enjoyed hitting sixes. But that’s life, I have to grow. I believe in partnerships and I want to give some reassurance and peace to my batting partner and my team. I want to show that I am there. I have learned how to accept pressure and make sure everything is calm. Maybe it means reducing my strike rate. Taking on new roles is always what I look forward to it. I want to take the new ball role as well, because I don’t want anyone to come and take that difficult role.
Pandya also said that his role is similar to the one that former India captain MS Dhoni adopted during the later stages of his international career.
He said, I have no problem playing the role that Mahi used to play somewhere. At that time, I was young and hitting it around the park. But since he is gone, all of a sudden, it The responsibility has come on me. I don’t mind it. We are getting results. If I have to slow down a bit, that’s fine.
The Indian team will now play a four-match Test series against Australia in February followed by three ODIs in March.
