Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Tharman Shanmugaratnam on being elected as the President of Singapore.

Prime Minister Modi said in an X (tweet) message that hearty congratulations to Tharman Shanmugaratnam on your election as the President of Singapore. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership.

Singapore-born Indian-origin economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam won the presidential election on Friday. Shanmugaratnam, 66, was the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore from 2011 to 2019.
