Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction railway bridge in Mizoram.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted, “I am saddened by the bridge accident in Mizoram. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured get well soon. Rescue operations are underway, and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected people.”

Meanwhile, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga too expressed his ‘deepest condolences’ to all the bereaved families.

In a X post, CM Zoramthanga said, “Deeply saddened and affected by this tragedy. I extend my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Atleast 17 workers have lost their lives in the tragic accident.
