New Delhi, 09 Sept : Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and discussed mutual cooperation in defence, border management, trade, connectivity, water resources, energy, developmental projects, cultural and people-to-people relations. Sheikh Hasina is in Delhi to attend the G-20 Summit as an invitee.
India, Bangladesh to Use Chattogram, Mongla Sea Ports, Bharat-Bangladesh Pipeline
The use of Chattogram and Mongla sea ports and making the Bharat-Bangladesh pipeline operational were welcomed by both leaders. They also welcomed bilateral trade using the Indian rupee.
The developmental projects to be inaugurated soon include – Agartala-Akhoura Rail Link; Maitri Power Unit-II; and Khulna-Mongla Rail Link.
The strategic plans between the two nations are – i) Arrangements for digital payment between National Payment Corporation of India and Bangladesh Bank. ii) Renewal of agreement for cultural exchange from 2023 to 2025. iii) Agreement between the Indian Council for Agricultural Research and the Bangladesh Council for Agricultural Research.
Modi appreciated Bangladesh’s magnanimity to offer refuge to about one million displaced people from Myanmar, and approach to the Indo-Pacific region.
