New Delhi, 28 August : President Droupadi Murmu released a commemorative coin on the centenary year of the late NT Rama Rao on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that NT Rama Rao enriched Indian cinema and culture through Telugu films. He made the main characters of the Ramayana and Mahabharata alive with his acting. The roles of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna played by him became so alive that people started worshipping NTR.
She said that NTR also expressed the suffering of the common people through his acting. She spread the message of social justice and equality through one of his films, ‘Manushulanta Okkate’ meaning all human beings are equal.
The president said that NTR’s popularity as a public servant and a mass leader was widespread. He achieved a special position in Indian politics through his extraordinary personality and hard work. He started many public welfare programmes, which are still remembered today.
The President appreciated the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, for bringing out a commemorative coin on NTR. She said that his unique personality would always remain etched in the hearts of the people, especially the Telugu-speaking people.
