New Delhi, August 25 : After nine days of hot metal production, Nagarnar Steel Plant on Thursday achieved the milestone of hot rolled coil production. Reacting to this, NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Amitav Mukherjee said that NMDC has joined the prestigious league of Indian steel makers. This was long-awaited by the local community.
He said that encouraging comments are also being received from the industry. It is being said that the commissioning of three important units—the blast furnace, steel melting shop, and mills—in the hot zone in such a short span of time is a major achievement. This steel plant of three million metric tonnes per year has been set up at a cost of Rs 24,000 crore. The plant is all set to make a mark in the hot-rolled market with its high-grade hot-rolled steel stock. Hot rolling is a mill process that involves rolling steel at high temperatures (typically in excess of 1700°F).
