Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has assumed a prominent role in the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) election campaign amidst her husband’s imprisonment. In a bid to garner support for AAP’s East Delhi candidate Kuldeep Kumar, Sunita Kejriwal is set to lead a mega roadshow in the national capital today.
The decision for Sunita Kejriwal to spearhead AAP’s campaign comes in response to Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest last month in connection with a money laundering case linked to the liquor policy scam. Despite his incarceration, Arvind Kejriwal continues to serve as the Chief Minister, with the AAP asserting his ability to govern from jail.
AAP minister Atishi announced the move, stating that Sunita Kejriwal’s campaign aims to seek blessings for Arvind Kejriwal and garner votes for AAP candidates across Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana.
Sources within the AAP indicate that Sunita Kejriwal’s increased involvement in the party’s activities aims to boost the morale of party workers and maintain cohesion amid challenging circumstances.
Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasized Sunita Kejriwal’s pivotal role in keeping the party united during Arvind Kejriwal’s absence, noting her positive influence on party members.
Prior to her engagement in AAP’s election campaign, Sunita Kejriwal participated in INDIA bloc’s rallies in Delhi and Ranchi, where opposition parties criticized the BJP for allegedly misusing central agencies against opposition-ruled states.
Sunita Kejriwal, a former Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer with 22 years of service in the income tax department, met Arvind Kejriwal during a training program in Bhopal. Her extensive experience in the bureaucratic domain adds weight to her new role in AAP’s election campaign.
Having taken voluntary retirement in 2016, Sunita Kejriwal’s last posting was as the income tax commissioner at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in Delhi. Her entry into active politics marks a significant development in AAP’s electoral strategy amid Arvind Kejriwal’s legal challenges.
