Ten members of extortionist gang held in Singapore

Singapore, 17 Aug : A gang of ten foreigners involved in extortion in Singapore were arrested by the police. Police also seized material worth $ (Singapore) 1 billion.

According to the media reports about 400 police officers conducted simultaneous raids at nine places from Archer Road Shopping Belt to Resorts in Sentosa Island. Police seized 94 properties, bank accounts having $110 million, 50 vehicles. $23 million cash, a large number of luxury handbags, watches, jewelry etc.

Those arrested are between 31 and 44 years of age. Following the raid, one of them jumped from a balcony on the second floor. The Cyprus national who jumped from the balcony received injuries and has been hospitalised. The gang of extortionists includes a woman and are residents of China, Cambodia, Cyprus, and Vanuatu. Twelve accused who were arrested earlier were helping the police in the investigation. The gang members are connected to each other and are involved in online gambling and other corrupt practices.
