Bengaluru, 27 July (H.S): Basavaraj Bommai, the newly elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Legislature Party is expected to meet Governor Tawar Chand Gehlot in a short while from now to put forth his claim of forming the new government in the state, according to party sources.
Dharmendra Pradhan, union Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship declared the unanimous election of Basavaraj Bommai, soon after the legislature party meeting here at a private hotel this evening.
BS Yediyurappa, the outgoing chief minister proposed the name of Basavaraj Bommai while Govind Karjol, former Deputy Chief Minister seconded the motion to elect the new leader.
The formality of electing the new leader got over in a couple of minutes according to informed sources. The core committee of the party met earlier at the same venue for a while before the formal meeting.
Basavaraj Bommai, a confidant of BS Yediyurappa touched the latter’s feet as a mark of gratitude. Arun Singh, state BJP in-charge, union Ministers’ Dharmendra Pradhan, Kishan Reddy and DK Aruna represented the party high command as observers.
